This is an interesting spot. It was a couple of doors down from Jody's, the place that will forever have my heart... RIP. Anyways, Phil's has been around for a long time. There was a day when I got to the area quite early -- it was before Jody's opened, so I stopped in Phil's just to check it out. It's a spacious bar with a lot of tables too... the right side is where the entrance is, and half of the large bar. There's a DJ booth in the corner as well. The opposite side has pool tables... now, an interesting thing I noticed (at least when I went is that during the day the lighting is the same all around. But at night, the main entrance side is dark, while the side with the pool tables is so bright! It makes for quite the interesting contrast lol. So they have specials, tend to vary on the daily, but mostly it's rails and beers. On my last occasion, I just had drinks, which were fine! I had a margarita or two that hit the right spot. When I did eat a couple of times before, I had their goat, which was just okay -- it was quite chewy! Their food menu goes for a West African cuisine. I'm pretty sure this is the only spot I know that combines happy hour, sports bar and African food into one package. I approve! All in all it's a vibe -- it's not my favorite spot, but will go whenever I'm in the mood for something different.
Amazing experience great food. Awesome service ambiance was very welcoming . Will be going back again
Food was amazing and very tasty and the service was on point. Only issue was, they didn't have certain items on the menu and the food took forever to get out which is understandable in both cases. My main problem with the goat meat was that was almost impossible to bite in or chew. I've eaten lots of goat meat before, so I already know it's tough, but this was almost impossible. I'd definitely come back though because the flavor is so rich.
Hole in the wall that I've passed by for many years now! Met up with my Yelp crew last week for food and drinks! I ended up just sticking to drinks since I wasn't hungry. Those who got food seemed to enjoy it. The place isn't huge but it's cozy. The drinks are cheap and pretty good. They have some happy hour specials. The service was good. Definitely chill laid back vibes! There's a pool table and a dj (wasn't one the night we were there). I would come back again. Not in a hurry but eventually!
I popped into Phil's for a monthly outing with a few yelpers. Little did I know that the person recommending the location has never tried the place lol. Phil's is a dive bar...but dive bars are great...who doesn't love a place where the staff makes you feel welcome and the menu offers more than just your traditional outtakes. Phil's offers daily happy hour specials, Sunday Football specials, decent amount of TVs, decent music and great vibes. There are also pool tables in the back if that's your thing. Parking is free and located around the building...the drinks are just right...if your looking for a mixologist vibe this may not be your seen, but if your looking for a quick nightcap this is exactly the place. I'm sure Phil's thrives off of the locals in the area but I'd be willing to certainly travel again to experience more of the west African cuisine offered. This is the perfect place to catch up with friends you haven't talked too in awhile and also to meet new friends. Give it a try and peep the menu pics
I popped into Phil's Bar on a recommendation. It is more of a local dive but the bar service is very good. I have only tried their burger. It was cooked to temp. Nice flavor. Other than that they do keep the drinks flowing.
Visiting from ATL and decided to stop by at a local bar and Phil's was awesome! Great Food and superb customer service! Had a great time here and would definitely return again! The owner happened to be here and he honestly went above and beyond in terms of being helpful and hospitable! Would definitely recommend checking this place out!
I was here on a Friday afternoon for drinks. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. It had a local feel to it where everyone seemed to know each other. Their beer selection was small but they had great mix drink specials. There are two pool tables there but get a group of friends on one for a fun night. Disclaimer: it could get a little rowdy but it's fun! #YelpMDburbs
Great Kenyan food. The best beef samosas in the DMV--nice herbs and spices. Today I carried away a late lunch. Samosas - most excellent (pretty much only time I eat meat) Cabbage - freakin' delicious, I never get enough. I swear there is curry in it. Collard greens - a tiny bit of a kick (spicy heat), braised perfectly, not at all mushy. Great tasting food. There is a lot more Kenyan food and American fare on the menu here.
